In a massive relief for the middle class, Sitharaman announced that no income tax would be payable on income up to ₹12 lakh. The protein-rich snack is another highlight of Union Budget 2025 as the Finance Minister announced the setting up of a Makhana Board in Bihar, a state that produces 90% of India’s fox nuts. Bihar To Get Makhana Board; ₹100 Crore Allocated By Govt.
While presenting the budget on Saturday for a record eight consecutive times, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated that a Makhana Board will be established in Bihar. About ₹100 crore has been allocated for the setting up of this board, dedicated to promoting the superfood. Loaded with protein, carbohydrates, potassium, Makhana or fox nuts is made from the seeds of the prickly waterlily plant. Also, Makhana is extremely low on fat.

Special Focus To Promote The Superfood
Nirmala Sitharaman said that Bihar will open a Makhana Board to improve the processing, production, marketing and value addition of the superfood. The Finance Minister said that the people engaged in the activities will be organised in Farmer Producer Organisation (FPOs). She stated that the Makhana Board will offer training support to Makhana farmers and hand-holding to make sure they receive all the benefits of all government schemes.
