Recently, the UAE announced that it has recalled some of the instant formula products that are manufactured by Nestlé. This has been done by the Emirates Drug Establishment in coordination with Nestlé, as they announced a voluntary and precautionary recall on Wednesday night, January 7th. As it happens, a limited number of infant formula products.
Some Nestlé Infant Baby Formula Recalled
As mentioned in a report of the Gulf News, NAN Comfort 1, NAN OPTIPRO 1, NAN SUPREME PRO 1, 2, 3, S-26 Ultima 1, 2, 3, and Alfamino have been recalled. This recall has been initiated since one of the raw materials that was used in the production was found to contain traces of Bacillus cereus bacteria. This can produce toxin cereulide, which prompted action for protecting consumer health and safety, as revealed by the Emirates Drug Establishment.
Why Did This Happen?
This recall follows a global one of selected infant formulas that were launched by the Swiss food giant, Nestlé. This potential contamination risk involves a toxic substance, which can cause food poisoning symptoms in infants. However, to date, no illness or adverse events have been linked to the affected batches, and all the other products are safe for consumption.
The effective batches have been quarantined in coordination with Nestlé by the EDE. Not to mention, these measures have been undertaken to protect the public health and safety so that there is complete removal of affected batches from all points of sale, including the online retail platforms.
SFDA Also Issues Warning
Not only the UAE, but the Saudi Food and Drug Authority has also issued a warning on social media against the consumption of the aforementioned products. Taking to X, it mentions how there could be potential contamination and that this is a voluntary precautionary record. The authority has asked the consumers to stop using the batches that were being recalled and to ask them to dispose of the products instead, as mentioned in another report of the Gulf News.

With the SFDA affirming its commitment towards monitoring food safety, it is continuing to ensure strict compliance with health regulations. Kuwait and Qatar have also won against these products, as revealed by the Kuwait Public Authority for Food and Nutrition and Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health.
So, if you know someone who uses this product, you might want to talk to them about the batch’s potential contamination and show them the ministry’s official announcements.
