When it comes to towering achievements, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa has reigned supreme for over a decade. But now, a new contender is rising from the sands of Saudi Arabia: Jeddah Tower, a project aiming to reach dizzying heights and steal the title of “World’s Tallest Building.” With construction back on track, the race is on.

Jeddah Tower, A Giant In The Making

Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower is set to be a jaw-dropping 1,000 metres tall! Yes, that’s over a kilometre. With 157 storeys planned, it’s primed to outshine the Burj Khalifa, which currently stands at a “mere” 828 metres. Designed by Adrian Smith, the same architectural mastermind behind Dubai’s iconic skyscraper, the Jeddah Tower has been long in the making. Work began more than a decade ago but faced delays. Now, however, with the announcement by Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal that construction has resumed, we’re witnessing history in the making.

Progress on the Jeddah Tower has resumed, with 63 floors already in place and one billion dirhams invested so far. The project will cost six billion dirhams more before reaching its staggering full height. The tower will form the centrepiece of the first phase of the 1.3-million-square-metre Jeddah Economic Company City. This is just one slice of the 5.3 million-square-metre total development planned around the tower, promising a futuristic urban space.

While the tower’s height alone is enough to make your head spin, we still have time to wait before it’s officially crowned. Construction is estimated to take around 42 months, with completion expected by the first half of 2028. That’s nearly five years for the Burj Khalifa to enjoy being the world’s tallest building before it’s knocked off its throne.

The Future of Skyscrapers

As the Jeddah Tower rises, it signals more than just a shift in architectural records; it hints at a future where skyscrapers touch new heights, literally and figuratively. Could we soon see a tower exceeding 1.5 kilometres? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure; the skyline of Saudi Arabia will never look the same again.
With construction back in full swing, Jeddah Tower is set to reshape the world’s architectural landscape. Soon, you’ll be gazing in awe at a building over a kilometre tall, right in the heart of Jeddah. As Dubai’s Burj Khalifa prepares to step aside, the future of sky-high construction looks taller than ever.
