American Living In India Lists 10 Things She Wished The US Had

Kristen Fischer is an American living in India. She has been living in the country for the last few years with her husband and three children and often talks about the cultural differences between the two countries and documents her life here. In a recent post on Instagram, she listed out 10 things that India does and she wishes America had.

She begins by highlighting how everything is digital in India–from IDs, and birth certificates to online payments, thanks to UPI. She went as far as saying that UPI should be adopted across the world! Next, she applauded the autos and rickshaws, which are cheap, fast, readily available, and convenient. She lives in Delhi and shared that they have free waste removal service available in the city, something they had to pay for in the US.

She also appreciated the easy accessibility of skilled labour, vegetarian food options, lack of junk mail, maximum retail price (MRP) printed on items, and of course, quick delivery apps that make living here much easier.

One of the most important things she wishes for the US to learn from India is the easy accessibility to medical facilities. Kristen points out how people in India don’t have to make appointments with doctors weeks in advance and how prescriptions are not always needed for medication here.
