If you’re someone who frequently orders from online food delivery platforms like Zomato and Swiggy, you must have noticed that the prices of the items seem to be quite costly — the total bill, despite the many discounts that the app offers, tends to be quite high. Recently, a Zomato customer shared a post on social media that showed that Zomato was charging a higher price for food items than the restaurant’s OG prices.

Zomato Customer Shows The Price Difference On The App

According to a post made by Abhishek Kothari on X (formerly known as Twitter), Zomato was found overcharging. The post showed a bill from a restaurant called Udupi 2 Mumbai which is located in Vile Parle. He got the bill after he physically went to the restaurant and got a takeaway.

Along with the picture of the bill, he also shared a screenshot of the prices listed of items from the same restaurant on Zomato. Upma, which costs Kothari ₹40 when bought directly from the restaurant, costs ₹120 on Zomato. Not just that, Thatte Idli, which costs ₹60 when bought directly, costs ₹161 on the food delivery platform.

That’s more than double the price! In a follow-up post, he shared that his bill at the restaurant, including tea, was ₹320, on Zomato it costs ₹740! And this is with a “discount” of ₹100!

This Is How The Social Media Handle Responded To The Post

The food delivery platform’s social media handle took heed of the post and responded in the comments section. They said that the prices are only governed by the restaurant partners and that they do not have a say in it.

Kothari responded to Zomato by saying that he spoke to the restaurant owner directly. As per the owner, Zomato pays the restaurant based on the menu prices of the restaurant. Many people criticised the food delivery platform.
