Getting an appointment for a visa interview is surely not an easy task. What begins with collecting necessary documents and information ends with stress and a waiting period for an anticipated stress-free interview. Looks like the process for a US visa interview appointment is about to become a lot easier in the next year. As of now, the Embassy finalised important steps for a smooth procedure.
Starting In 2025, Visa Applicants Can Reschedule Appointments One Time For Free
Taking to Instagram, US Embassy India (@usembassyindia) shared necessary information about the changes.

On December 18, the US Embassy in India announced the new decision about rescheduling a visa interview appointment for one time for zero cost. “To ensure everyone has a fair chance at getting a visa interview appointment and to reduce wait times, we are making some changes,” the official Instagram account of the US Embassy in New Delhi, India, wrote.
Applicants can reschedule their nonimmigrant visa appointments for any reason just one time. This new visa appointment rule will come into effect on January 1, 2025. Starting this date, interested individuals can easily do the necessary and set a meeting absolutely free of cost. People can conduct the nonimmigrant visa appointment at a location of their preference.
The ‘free of cost’ rescheduled appointment will be valid just once. If anyone somehow misses attending that meeting and needs to schedule another visa appointment, making it the second time, they must repay the application fee to complete the appointment procedure. Taking to the post’s caption, the US Embassy added, “If you miss your appointment or need to reschedule a second time, you will be required to book a new appointment and repay your application fee.”
More Information About This Procedure
The US Embassy in India also highlighted that the wait times are quite long. Since the duration is longer, the Embassy suggested applicants try to attend the appointment on their selected dates “to keep the process efficient and fair.” Rescheduling will only delay the official task.
These small yet impactful decisions are aimed at making the visa appointment procedure simpler. The Embassy shared that “these will make it easier and faster for everyone to get appointments.”
