Assam has approved its official “Policy for Concert Tourism in Assam,” making a strong push towards tapping into India’s growing live music industry. As reported by Moneycontrol, the government aims to develop cities such as Guwahati, Jorhat, and Dibrugarh into regular concert destinations. These cities will receive support to create world-class venues with modern sound, lighting, and stage infrastructure.

The state will offer financial support in the form of viability gap funding to ensure the successful execution of events. This initiative aligns with India’s rising concert economy, which was valued at over ₹12,000 crore in 2024. The industry is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19% over the next three years.

Post Malone’s upcoming performance signifies more than just entertainment. His presence marks Assam’s formal entry into the international music tourism circuit. The Grammy-nominated rapper previously performed in Mumbai in 2022, drawing thousands of fans. Of this, ₹392 crore contributed directly to the local economy, while ₹72 crore came through GST revenue.
Assam expects similar outcomes. Concerts attract visitors from across the country and overseas, leading to a surge in hotel bookings, transport services, food and beverage sales, and temporary employment. Local businesses and artisans can also benefit from the increased footfall and demand for cultural experiences.
