1. Atlanta, Georgia

While Hawkins is a fictional town, Stranger Things was mainly filmed around Atlanta, Georgia, which served as the key shooting location for the series. Its suburbs and dense forests gave the show its perfect small-town America feel. Several outdoor scenes were filmed at Stone Mountain Park, whose natural landscapes added an authentic vibe to the series.
2. Patrick Henry High School
The former Patrick Henry High School in Stockbridge, Georgia, served as the filming location for both Hawkins Middle School and Hawkins High School in Stranger Things. This school featured in multiple seasons. However, the building was demolished in 2024 and is sadly no longer standing. Fans can no longer visit the location.
3. Stone Mountain Cemetery
The fictional Roane Hill Cemetery seen in Stranger Things was actually filmed at Stone Mountain Cemetery in Georgia, near Atlanta. The location featured in some of the show’s most emotional scenes, including the one where Max visits her brother Billy’s grave.

4. Oglethorpe University
Known for its massive size and beautiful Gothic architecture, Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven served as a shooting location for Stranger Things season 5. The location was used during scenes showing Dustin navigating college life. Moreover, in real life, Oglethorpe University is a private liberal arts college in Georgia.
5. Georgia Mental Health Institute

The Georgia Mental Health Institute was used as one of the primary filming locations for Hawkins National Laboratory. The building has been demolished and will not appear in the upcoming episodes of the show.
6. Chattahoochee Hills

For Stranger Things season 5, Chattahoochee Hills in Georgia served as a key shooting location for ‘The Squawk’ radio station, an important new addition to the series. Located in Fulton County, Chattahoochee Hills is known for its rural setting and peaceful atmosphere.
