The 10-foot-tall golden toilet sculpture on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. is a temporary installation that visitors can sit on and will remain on display for several days. According to ARTnews, the artwork is by Secret Handshake, a group of anonymous artists.

If you haven’t been able to guess, the gleaming golden toilet didn’t just appear out of the blue, it is actually a piece of political and social commentary. With this installation, Secret Handshake appears to take a dig at US President Donald Trump and, reportedly, his decision last year to renovate the bathroom attached to the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House.

According to ARTnews, the bathroom’s Art Deco-style green tiles were replaced with marble last year. As you can imagine, this move quickly sparked widespread discussion online. The changes weren’t limited to just the washroom. Since returning to office, US President Donald Trump has pushed for broader renovations across the White House and parts of Washington, D.C..

The massive golden toilet artwork in Washington has been named ‘A Throne Fit For A King’.
