In a recent development, Air India Express (IX) has now announced that it will stop all its flight operations from Hindon Airport (HDX), located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, barely a year after launching operations there. The decision has apparently been taken due to operational challenges. Here’s what we know so far.
Air India Express To Discontinue Services From Hindon Airport
Air India Express is a low-cost Indian airline and a subsidiary of Air India. According to a report by Aviation A2Z, the airline will now discontinue its services from Hindon Airport (HDX) at the end of the winter schedule. The airport is located in Sikanderpur, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The airport falls within the Delhi-NCR region and serves as a closer alternative to Delhi’s main Indira Gandhi International Airport for residents in Ghaziabad, Noida, and nearby areas.
This decision comes barely a year after Air India Express launched its operations from this airport. The airline currently operates flights connecting Hindon Airport with Mumbai (BOM) and Bengaluru (BLR). However, bookings are only available until March 27, 2026.

Operational Challenges Behind The Decision
According to The Hindu Business Line, demand is not a problem, but the airline is facing operational challenges at Hindon Airport, including aircraft availability. Moreover, the upcoming launch of Noida Airport is also said to be a factor behind this decision. The carrier has not yet issued any official statement regarding this move.
Reportedly, IndiGo and Star Air will continue to operate from Hindon Airport. According to the Airports Authority of India, Hindon Airport handled 9.6 lakh passengers between April and January. This airport is owned by the Indian Air Force, but AAI runs a civil terminal inside. Passenger flights began from Hindon Airport under the UDAN scheme in October 2019.
