Curly Tales was recently invited to enjoy a hearty pahadi breakfast in Dehradun at Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s home. Over the delicious meal, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani asked him about the cultural differences between Kumaon and Garhwal Region and here’s what the CM had to say.

Uttarakhand is divided into two regions–Kumaon and Garhwal. But what is the difference between these regions? Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami explained that there is only a slight difference between the languages spoken in the two regions. While there are some differences, the basics of language in both regions are more or less the same.

Coming to the food, he said that even the food in both regions is pretty similar. He said, “Pahad ki ek jaise sabki apni sanskriti hai, yahan pe culture lag bhag ek jaisa hi hai.”

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami then talked about how hardworking the people in Uttarakhand, especially women, are. He even spoke about how people in the mountains have always opted to work in the Army, regardless of the region they came from. He shared that even his father worked with the Indian Army and that’s why he always valued discipline in life.
