A helicopter carrying Char Dham pilgrims crashed near Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The incident happened near Gangnani in Uttarkashi district on May 8 morning. Seven people were aboard the helicopter, with the latest reports confirming six fatalities and one person injured. The helicopter was en route from Yamunotri Dham.
6 Killed In Helicopter Crash Near Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand
According to the Times of India, a helicopter operated by a private company, Aerotrans Services Private Ltd., plunged into a deep gorge near Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The unfortunate incident occurred around 8:50 AM on Thursday. The plane was carrying seven people, including the pilot, and only one survived with severe injuries.
Reportedly, the helicopter took off from Dehradun and dropped a group of passengers at the Kharsali helipad, near Yamunotri Temple. It then departed from the Yamunotri Dham with new passengers, bound for the Harsil helipad. However, the chopper crashed and killed six people, including the pilot, onboard.
Five women, identified as Kala Soni, Vijaya Reddy, Ruchi Aggarwal, Radha Aggarwal, and Vedavati Kumari, died during the helicopter crash near Uttarkashi. Robin Singh, the chopper pilot from Gujarat, also died in the crash. 51-year-old Bhaskar from Andhra Pradesh was the lone survivor and suffered severe injuries.
The cause of the helicopter crash near Uttarkashi is still unknown. The crash occurred at a site located 200-250 metres down a gorge on a hill near a village. State Disaster Relief Force, Army and police personnel rushed to the site of the crash and started a rescue operation.

As per reports, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a probe to investigate the cause of the helicopter crash in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. The AAIB, a division of the Civil Aviation Ministry, looks into aircraft safety events in Indian airspace. They are responsible for classifying any safety-related event as accidents, serious incidents, or incidents.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami took to the social media platform X to express condolences to the family of the deceased. In the post, he wrote in Hindi and said, “May God grant peace to the souls of those who died in the accident and give strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss.
