What is the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions Rishikesh? Of course it’s whitewater rafting! While we know how thrilling this experience is, it does have some dangerous points. Keeping this in mind, the Uttarakhand police will soon have a distinct rafting rescue force. This force will solely ensure the safety of visitors who want to experience the thrill of crossing the Ganga’s powerful currents.

The Rafting Rescue Force will be placed in two of the rafting route’s riskiest locations, perhaps along the Rishikesh route. In the event of an emergency, the force will intervene.

The state Tourism Development Council has requested the police set up security measures for rafting in the area, according to State Disaster Response Force Commandant Manikant Mishra, who spoke to this newspaper. Therefore, the police headquarters decided to establish the Police Rafting Rescue Center at Shivpuri.

The largest rafting adventure center in the nation is in Rishikesh. At least 5 lakh visitors visit Rishikesh for rafting every year. This center will also oversee this rescue unit. Personnel from the PAC, SDRF, and other police divisions will be present. On Monday, the police headquarters issued directives in response to a request from the Tourism Development Council.

The river is highly choppy at this time of year, according to Mishra, who also said that there are several hazardous areas where at least four visitors are killed in accidents every year. A flood assistance center is to be established at Muni Ki Reti, according to instructions from the police headquarters.

During the rainy season, at least 16 officers and SDRF personnel will be deployed. Rafting is practiced in the Rishikesh region between Shivpuri and Rishikesh and Mala Ki Khunti and Shivpuri.

Both of these routes contain five hazardous spots. These include Daniel Deep, The Wall, Three Blind Mice, Roller Coaster, and Golf Course. Given that there haven’t been any accidents there in a while, Daniel Deep is seen as the safest bet. (As per the New Indian Express)
