Good news, folks! The Vande Bharat Express has finally reached Kashmir! The specially-designed train travelled from Katra in Jammu to Srinagar’s Nowgam station on the eve of Republic Day and completed its maiden trial run on the world’s highest rail bridge, the Chenab Bridge. The much-anticipated Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is likely to begin operations soon. After years of effort and overcoming engineering challenges, the Vande Bharat Express concluded a trial run in the picturesque Kashmir valley on January 25. Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the train making history as it traversed through the world’s highest rail bridge, Chenab Bridge and Anji Khad Bridge to reach the station in Kashmir.

According to The Economic Times, the Vande Bharat Express, travelling from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, touched ground in the Kashmir valley at 11:30 AM on Saturday. People from all walks of life were present at the station to welcome the train as it is not just a technical achievement but also a hope for better connectivity in the region.

More About The Train & Route

As per reports, this Vande Bharat Express is specially designed to tackle Jammu and Kashmir’s severe winter conditions. It has special heating systems to prevent freezing of water and bio-toilet tanks, ensuring optimal performance even in sub-zero temperatures. Furthermore, the train’s front windshield has embedded heating elements that automatically defrost the driver’s view to ensure clear visibility, especially during winter.

This Vande Bharat Express in Kashmir will cover over 150 km in just two hours and 30 minutes. It will operate between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar stations. The successful train run is a step closer to the official launch of the Katra-Srinagar rail route. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the train from Katra, although the launch date of the route is still to be confirmed.
