Varanasi To Howrah In Just 2 Hours With Upcoming Bullet Train Corridor
According to India.com, Indian Railways is currently working to develop bullet train projects on multiple routes and one that stands out is the Varanasi-Patna-Howrah High Speed Rail Corridor. This planned bullet train project will offer high-speed train travel between Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Howrah in West Bengal, via Bihar.
The proposed 760-kilometre-long bullet train project will pass through major cities in the three states and cover the entire distance in just two hours. This will help travellers save significant time as it currently takes around 8-10 hours to cover this distance. According to Indian Railways’ proposal, this bullet train route will include about 260 km of elevated tracks within Bihar.

Top Speed, Route & More Details
As per reports, the Varanasi-Howrah bullet train project will pass through five major cities of eastern India–Varanasi, Buxar, Patna, Gaya, and Kolkata. The elevated route of this corridor will cover stations at Buxar, Patna, Gaya, Asansol, Dhanbad, Durgapur and Howrah. Other possible stations include Ara and Nawada.
This bullet train is expected to travel at a top speed of 350 kmph and the average speed will be 250 kmph. It will, reportedly, complete the journey in a little over two hours. Some reports also suggest that the train corridor may also pass through Koderma, Hazaribagh, Giridih, and Dhanbad in Jharkhand. While there has been no specific launch date revealed yet, it has been estimated that the corridor will be ready for commercial use by mid-2027.

Reportedly, the Varanasi-Patna-Howrah High-Speed Rail Corridor is currently in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage. Survey work is currently underway to assess land requirements and finalise the route. Once completed, this corridor will enhance connectivity between these two cities and reduce travel time.
