Varanasi, often referred to as the “Spiritual Capital of India,” is set to get a modern transport makeover. The city is set to get the country’s first urban public ropeway system. Three of the five stations, namely Cantt, Vidyapeeth, and Rathyatra are almost ready and the wire has been successfully installed. The trial runs will commence soon and last for around 1.5 months to ensure there are no loopholes.
India’s Oldest City, Varanasi, Gets A Ropeway
With a history that dates back 3000 years and more, Varanasi is a living tapestry of religion, culture, and tradition. People from all over the world flock to the city throughout the year to experience the city’s allure. The urban public ropeway in Varanasi will commence its operations soon. It will pass through some of the most crowded parts of the city and carry about 6000 commuters per day. This modern shift in the transport system will aid in easing Varanasi’s infamous traffic problems. It will also offer a more peaceful alternative to traditional modes of transportation.
Pioneering Sustainability And Urban Mobility Through Ropeway System
Beyond addressing significant traffic issues, the infrastructural update will highlight a strong dedication to sustainable growth and cutting-edge network solutions. According to ET Travel World, ‘The second phase of the ropeway, which covers additional stations, is expected to be finished by May. Significant progress has been made on the Girijaghar station, while construction at Godaulia station is set to begin soon.’
The major infrastructural project has been adopted by our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has also laid the foundation stone in March 2023. With a total cost of a whopping ₹650 crore, this urban project will revolutionise the way the city’s locals and travellers commute. The overall project will take more than six months to complete with additional stations being incorporated in the second phase.
