This Is How These Nuts Are Prepared For Consumption
The steps of cashew processing:
- To get rid of the moisture, the nuts are first sun-dried for a few days. They are rolled over once every day to enable uniform drying.
- The nuts are then heated so that they can be cracked easily with the hands. Once heated, the edible cashew kernels are separated.
- These kernels are then passed through compressed air to remove the skin.
- Next, they are sieved to get rid of all the unwanted bits of skin. Workers also hand-pick them once to make sure only edible parts go forward for processing
- Finally, these nuts are roasted at 70°C in special ovens. Once done, they are ready to reach the market and then our homes.
This process looks both tedious and fascinating at the same time.
