The entertainment is with us and how could we not have talked about movies with Vidya Balan? We wanted to talk to her about coming back to the theatres, as in coming back to watch movies in the theatres and being on the big screen. She did let us know that she used to watch movies on the big screen every week before the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the film releases became less.
We shifted the gear back to Vidya Balan’s childhood memories in Chembur, Mumbai as she was brought up here and spent most of her childhood and teens in the lanes of Chembur. Kamiya is also a Chembur girl and we saw a cute bonding moment between them. We wanted to know which theatre she frequented the most – Basant Theatre, Ashish Theatre or Shreyas Talkies? Vidya continued that she is a true 80s kid at heart. Many movie theatres were deteriorating in those years and watching a movie in a theatre wasn’t always her priority. No one truly enjoys catching a new film on the big screen in a shabby theatre. Because movie-going is an entirely new experience depending on the film you are watching and the theatre you choose.
Vidya Balan recalls watching Hum Aapke Hai Kaun, that too during its 45th week of running at the theatres! She became aware of just how much of an experience watching a film on a big screen is after catching this one film on its 45th week of release. At least she didn’t skip the movie entirely, she could have but instead watched it.
We Wanted To Know More Of Her Cinema-Going Stories
She felt the thrills of watching a film on the cinema screen after Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. From that point on, she began frequenting movie theatres. She makes it clear that she watched 1942: A Love Story before Hum Aapke Hai Kaun. She mentioned that she thought 1942: A Love Story’s cinematography was fantastic. Then, Vidya Balan gushed over how gorgeous Manisha Koirala looked in the movie.
We wanted to know what food is her go-to at the theatres. She got a little excited talking about theatre food and she told us that she loves to eat popcorn, the caramel ones. She is also thankful that there is a caramel makhana at the food counters.
