After the Philippines and China, Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Northern Vietnam on Saturday. The deadly typhoon brought torrential rains, violent winds, and widespread devastation to the northern coastal region of the country. So far, the flash floods and landslides have claimed 197 lives. The extreme weather has caused the authorities to issue a travel warning in Vietnam.

197 deaths and 125 missing people have been reported in Vietnam in the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi. The deadly typhoon brought flash floods, landslides, and violent winds that caused massive devastation in the Northern region of the country.

According to a Hindustan Times report, a flash flood buried the Lang Nu hamlet in Northern Vietnam. The flood swept away 35 families and their homes, and around 22 people were killed in the incident. The rescue teams have been able to save a dozen people so far and are still looking for 70 others. Most deaths due to landslides and floods have been reported in the northwestern Lao Cai province. The place is particularly famous for its popular trekking destination, Sapa.

In another incident, a steel bridge in Phu Tho province collapsed. The collapse swept away 10 cars and trucks and two motorbikes into the Red River. Furthermore, a landslide in the Cao Bang province claimed 20 lives. So far, around 800 people have been injured due to the deadly typhoon in Northern Vietnam.

Travel Warning Issued For International Tourists

The extreme weather conditions after the typhoon have caused the authorities to issue travel warnings for international tourists in Vietnam. Travel has been suspended in several provinces. In the Lao Cai province, tourists have been requested to stay indoors and all trekking expeditions have been suspended.

International tourists have been advised not to travel to the storm-affected areas. They have also been asked to monitor local news for updates, seek secure shelters, and protect all important documents like their passports. For now, most of the tourist spots and activities in Northern Vietnam have been shut down.
