The successful Agastya Choudhary of ‘Call Me Bae’, played by Vihaan Samat, was in conversation with our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for this Sunday Brunch episode. His co-actors, Ananya Pandey, Varun Sood and Gurfateh Pirzada, joined him at Amazonia, BKC. From playing fun games to leg-pulling and live fan interactions to gorging on good Asian food, it was a delightful episode. Read on to learn all about Vihaan’s part-time job days before stepping into Bollywood.
Vihaan Samat’s First Part-Time Job In NY
Vihaan, the Sindhi Munda living in Mumbai, the city that never sleeps (of the east), flew to the stunning metropolitan New York, the city that never sleeps (of the west), to pursue a degree in acting. This revelation piqued our interest and we wanted to learn about his time in NYC.
The actor shared that along with completing his degree, he was also teaching in public schools as a part-time job. He was a study skills coach for 4th to 12th-grade students. The schools assigned to him were extremely far off, so he began his day around 6-7 AM, travelled to those schools and taught lessons on memorisation to kids.
After being a teacher early in the morning, he would go back to being a student for his college degree. That’s how his typical days were in New York.

$80 For Every 4-Hour Class Wasn’t Enough For Him
Vihaan Samat continued that he was paid $80 for each four-hour class in NY. It comes out to be approximately ₹6,681.94. This also happens to be his first job and first pay cheque. His pay was respectable in terms of Indian market standards. Ananya commented, “That’s a lot!” and Vihaan agreed.
However, he added, “But when rent was like $1500 per month, you had to keep up with it.” Mumbai, his native city, has exorbitant rental prices, and the same is true of New York! He was able to make ends meet and gain an understanding of the world. In a way, this part-time job kept him grounded in NYC.
