When Three Starred Michelin Chef, Vineet Bhatia came down to India to change the menu of Ziya – The Oberoi, Mumbai, we caught up with him to find his likes, dislikes and his journey in life.

In a candid conversation with Curly Tales, he opened up about his initial days as a chef and all the accolades that followed him.

The Curly Tale

Chef Vineet Bhatia was born in India in 1967 into an educated middle class family in Aamchi Mumbai. He started his career as a trainee in Oberoi – Delhi and Jass Oberoi – Khajuraho. Vineet moved to London in 1993 and worked at the Star of India (Old Brompton Road, South Kensington).

After 1998, Vineet teamed up with Iqbal Wahab to conceptualise Cinnamon Club and later in April 1999, he opened Zaika in partnership. First in Chelsea and then in Kensington High Street.

In 2001, Zaika was awarded a Michelin star making Chef Vineet the first Indian chef-restaurateur to receive this honour. He is known for revolutionising Indian food in Britain whilst retaining the core values.

He opened up restaurant ‘Rasoi’ in London and fulfilled his cherished dream of having his own restaurant. Now with 12 restaurants across the globe as his, he smiles and tells us about all the little things in life. BTW, Beyonce, Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie are regular guests at his restaurant in London.
