Nature never fails to mesmerise us. Just when we think it has nothing new to offer, we’re bewitched by something out of the ordinary. Along with sinking cars in flooding rivers and massive landslides, we recently came across another aspect of the monsoon season. A video of Doomsday Shelf Clouds is making the rounds on Twitter, and people are in awe of the wondrous sight.
A Shelf Cloud Formed Near Haridwar
Anindya Singh, a Twitter user, posted a video of this sight and shared that it has been shot near Haridwar by one of his friends. Since then, this video has been circulated quite a lot. It has also ignited curiosity among people about these clouds. Take a look at the astonishing video yourself.
Low-level cloud formations known as “shelf clouds” are frequently seen as wedge or arc-shaped shelves of clouds along the front edge of thunderstorms. Typically, they appear as ominous, dark clouds that span the sky horizontally.
Shelf clouds are caused by warm, moist air lifting before a storm system. Condensation takes place as the warm air rises and cools, which causes the cloud to form. Shelf clouds have a distinctive shape due to cool air spreading out along the ground as it descends from the storm. This airflow causes the cloud to flatten and take on the appearance of a shelf.

Here’s What It Implies For The Weather
A thunderstorm or a line of severe weather is typically on its way when a shelf cloud is present. Strong winds, copious rain, and potentially dangerous weather are frequently linked to it. As it moves forward, the weather can suddenly change, bringing with it gusty winds, torrential rain, and perhaps even lightning and hail.
Even though they have a commanding appearance, shelf clouds do not directly cause tornadoes or other severe weather events. However, they frequently accompany powerful thunderstorms and may be a sign of turbulence in the atmosphere. When such clouds are seen, it could be an indication that dangerous weather conditions are about to develop.
This is certainly a magnificent display of nature!
