Recently, a passenger on the Mumbai-Goa Express spotted rats in the pantry car, and the video went viral.
Passenger Spots Rat in Mumbai-Goa Express Pantry Car
On October 15, a passenger on the Mumbai-Goa Express (11099 LTT MAO Express) experienced a traumatic incident that raised questions about passenger safety and cleanliness standards on Indian Railways. The rider caught the incident on camera after spotting rats in the train’s pantry compartment.
The traveller had originally planned to film the engine coupling procedure as the train departed. He was shocked to learn that the pantry car, which was housed within a coach that was liveried with the Garib Rath logo, was full of rats. He saw at least six to seven rats moving around, and he was able to record video of four of them.
The passenger posted on Instagram to express his shock and dissatisfaction, adding that this was such a harsh revelation for him as a rail aficionado and a train traveller.
On October 15, he claimed to be taking the 11099 LTT MAO Express with his family. The train’s initial departure time of 1:45 a.m. had been changed to 3:30. He had planned to record the engine connecting process because he is a rail aficionado, but instead, he saw the horrifying sight of rats in the pantry car.
A dismissive reaction was given when the passenger tried to report it to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The passenger claims that an RPF officer made the callous remark that if 5 or 6 rats had entered, “what’s the problem?” given that there are 500–600 rodents under the tracks. The passenger was quite upset by this callous attitude. (As per Times Now)

Rail Madad App To The Rescue
The passenger on Mumbai-Goa Express was determined to fix the issue. He followed established protocol and reported it to Assistant Station Master (Commercial), Meena. There are a lot of rats in the pantry; what can they do? the pantry car manager said nonchalantly to Meena’s inquiry. They are always given a broken-down carriage by the railways.
After that, the customer used the Rail Madad app to file a formal complaint. The passenger was given assurance by an app executive that the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would face consequences for the incident.
The passenger asked the IRCTC and Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about concerns regarding passenger safety and food quality on board trains. The IRCTC acknowledged in a formal statement that an investigation into the occurrence has been initiated. (As per Times Now)
