These days every other topic becomes a matter of debate. Whether it’s the neverending Mumbai vs. Delhi debate or the Gen Z vs. Millennials debate, everything becomes a matter of discussion. A new debate has come forth on social media, and it’s about Hindi vs. Kannada. A video of two women attempting to hail an auto in Bengaluru to see how much the driver would charge them—one speaking Hindi and the other Kannada—went viral on social media. This Bengaluru auto driver video has garnered quite a bit of attention on social media.
A Viral Video From Bengaluru Sparking Hindi Vs. Kannada Debate
In a widely shared video, two women, one speaking Hindi and the other Kannada, attempt to hail an auto for various Bengaluru locations. One driver agrees to take the woman who speaks Kannada but declines to take the one who speaks Hindi.
Further in the video, an auto-rickshaw driver tells the Hindi-speaking woman that he’ll charge ₹300 for a journey to Indiranagar. However, he quoted ₹200 for the same trip when asked by the Kannada-speaking woman. In another case, one driver ignored a Hindi-speaking woman but agreed to take the Kannada-speaking woman.
As it happens, this is not the first video or instance of North Indians attempting to get something done in South India. Every other incident, though, has an impact on us all in some way.
Netizens’ Reaction To This Viral Auto Driver Video
The comment section was definitely a mix of emotions, opinions, and perspectives. The fact that each reply was distinct from the others is a positive sign that a wide range of viewpoints is emerging. Though there were some amusing responses (such as “book an Uber instead”), another group of people thought that consumers were more likely to use Rapido or other transport booking apps instead.
