India’s street food scene is nothing short of legendary, with every corner brimming with the aroma of freshly fried samosas, sizzling kebabs, and tangy puchkas. However, while many of these offerings are delicious gems, occasionally, you stumble upon something so outlandish that it leaves you both intrigued and bewildered. The latest entry in this list of bizarre street food creations is chocolate-stuffed idli. It has taken the internet by storm, thanks to a viral video posted by Instagram content creator Amar Sodhi, known online as @foodie_incarnate.

In his recent post, Amar shared his experience of trying out an idli from a street cart in Bengaluru. Now, idli is a beloved South Indian staple, typically enjoyed in various forms—whether it’s the soft and fluffy thatte idli, the spicy ghee podi idli, the flavourful masala idli, or the rich butter idli. But what Amar encountered was downright bizarre.

This particular idli was no ordinary rice cake. It was a chocolate-stuffed idli, topped with an array of jams and other sweet treats. Yes, you read that right—chocolate inside an idli. To make it even more unconventional, these idlis were generously coated with strawberry, mango, and litchi jams.

But the surprises didn’t stop there. Instead of being served with the traditional coconut chutney or sambar, this idli was paired with a scoop of ice cream. And to top it all off, instead of the usual gun powder, the vendor used chocolate sprinkles as the finishing touch.

The Netizens Were Beyond Shocked

Priced at ₹100 per plate, it is perhaps the most peculiar twist on the humble idli yet. As Amar took his first bite, he could hardly mask his distaste, noting that the combination of salty, sweet, and sour flavours all at once was just too much for his palate. It was clear from his expression that this experiment with idli had gone too far.

The video quickly garnered attention, with viewers flooding the comments section with their thoughts. The reactions ranged from shock to humour, with one user exclaiming, “Justice for idli!,” while another lamented, “Tauba tauba, sara mood kharab kar diya.” One comment sarcastically suggested, “Bhai, Harpic reh hi gaya.”

Not everyone was completely against the idea, though. One user pointed out, “This may not be bad because idlis are quite bland.” One user cheekily suggested, “Surat, Ahmedabad me becho, aisa item udhar hit ho jayega.”

Would you dare to try it?
