Looks like Indian Railways is doing its best to ensure everyone has a happy festive season this time around! After Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced 6,000 special trains ahead of the festive season, Indian Railways has now announced the Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme (ATAS) called VIKALP Yojana.
With increased demand for train travel during Diwali and Chhath Puja, getting a confirmed train ticket is next to impossible. So, to ensure that the passengers get confirmed seats, Indian Railways launched this scheme. As per a News18 report, under the VIKALP Yojana, passengers get to select multiple trains at once. This way they get the option to travel on the train where a seat is available.
All you have to do is choose the option of VIKALP Yojana while booking your train tickets this festive season and your chances of getting a confirmed ticket will significantly increase.
All You Need To Know About This Scheme By Indian Railways
Now, here are a few things you need to know about Indian Railways’ VIKALP Yojana –
1. Even for the VIKALP Yojana, Railways will open the booking of tickets 120 days before the date of travel. In case of emergencies, one can also book tickets a day before the journey with the Tatkal facility.
2. While booking a ticket online, passengers will be automatically suggested the VIKALP option.
3. You can choose other trains on that route with this scheme. As soon as a seat or couchette is available on an alternative train, you will be allocated a seat on that train.
4. To stay updated, you can check the status of this option by visiting the history of your booked tickets.
5. Passengers will get to choose 7 trains that run from the boarding station to the destination within 30 minutes to 72 hours.
6. Also, choosing the VIKALP Yojana option doesn’t mean you get a confirmed ticket, it merely increases the chances of getting one.
