Did you know that The Southern Railway will now allow you to travel with pets? Yes, you heard it right! The Southern Railway has revealed that passengers can now carry pets on trains – they need to book first-class tickets to avail the facility. Proper guidelines have been issued for the same. Read on to know the details of it all!

Southern Railway Issues Guidelines Regarding Travelling With Pets

It was on Wednesday that Southern Railway issued the guidelines. According to them, pets are not allowed in AC 2 tier, AC 3 tier, AC chair car, sleeper class and second class compartments. If any passenger is caught carrying pets without proper booking, a penalty will be charged – the penalty will be six times the luggage rates.
According to the railways, “Passengers can carry pets with them in AC-First Class/First Class Cabin/Coupe or it can be booked as luggage in luggage-cum-brake van under the supervision of the train manager (Guard).”
Passengers will be allowed only one dog per Passenger Name Record (PNR) and the dog must be brought to the luggage/parcel office for booking at least three hours prior to the departure regardless of the mode of ticket booking.

What Else Does A Passenger With Pet Need To Submit?

According to the guidelines issued by the Southern Railway, each passenger travelling with a pet had to submit a fitness certificate from a veterinarian stating the pet is not suffering from any infectious/contagious diseases. This certificate must be obtained 24-48 hours prior to the journey and must be mandatorily submitted along with vaccination cards during the time of booking.
