Recently, a video went viral on social media which showed a giant sinkhole opening up in the middle of the road in the city of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. The video also showed a car which was teetering dangerously close to the edge of the sinkhole. Luckily, the car made it out of the hole safely. According to an article which was recently published by India Today, the incident took place on March 3, 2024. A road in the Vikas Nagar neighbourhood of Lucknow caved in and gave way to a giant sinkhole.
The sinkhole was measured to be 20 feet wide. Unfortunately, a car was stuck on the edge of the sinkhole. A video which was shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) shows a red car teetering dangerously over the edge of the sinkhole.
The sinkhole opened up after two days of ceaseless rain and hailstorms. Fortunately, however, the car made a narrow escape and no one was harmed in this incident. The driver immediately alerted the Public Works Department or the PWD.

As of now, an investigation is underway to find out the root cause of the sinkhole opening up. The PWD was also directed to immediately begin the reconstruction work.
Since the hole has opened up on one of the major roads in the area, it is causing significant inconvenience to the locals.
It is also being reported that the sinkhole kept increasing in size which also endangered the houses as well as the buildings nearby.
