Recently, the Sharjah Child Safety Department conducted an experiment, which found alarming results. The social experiment, which was aimed at the awareness of children’s safety revealed most of the children lack the skill to detect stranger danger. Sharjah Child Safety Development Undertakes Social Experiment

In a recent social experiment by Sharjah Child Safety Development, 37 participants, all children, were given free ice cream. However, the free ice cream from a stranger was in exchange for entering his van. Out of 37 participants in the experiment, only one hesitated to enter into the van. Yes, the remaining 36 children happily accepted the stranger’s offer! This highlights how these children failed to detect stranger danger.

Children Lack Stranger Danger Awareness

This social experiment was carried out at Kshisha Park in Sharjah. An a realistic scenario in the bustling public park had been created. Teaming up with the family, a friendly approached children. After offering free treats in exchange for entering the truck, the results showed that most of the children accepted the offer without the slightest hesitation. Yes, 97% of the participants were ready to enter a stranger’s van in exchange for free ice cream in Sharjah.

An experiment that was designed to assess the child safety awareness levels, it shows how the caregivers need to a stranger danger. They need to give important guidance that will allow their children to navigate safely. Not to mention, it also declines an urgent need to equip children with the knowledge about how to be in such scenarios. The social experiment highlighted how children lacking such skills are at risk of abduction and physical harm or abuse.
