Volcanic eruptions are probably the most fascinating phenomena on Earth. There is something so awe-inspiring in witnessing molten lava oozing out of the volcanic crevice that is at once horrifying yet beautiful. The video has now gone viral on social media.

One Of The World’s Most Active Volcanoes Erupts

On September 10, Kilauea erupted after being silent for about two months. Kilauea, located in Hawaii, is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and may even be regarded as the most active, as per the United States Geological Survey or USGS.

The video of the eruption has gone viral and many people have shared it on platforms like X (formerly, Twitter). The short video showcases lava spewing forth from the volcanic crevice in a fiery wall. The eruption was in the Halema’uma’u crater.

The molten lava was accompanied by volcanic smog which is also called ‘vog’. The Hawaii Volcano Observatory issued an advisory to the residents living close to the volcano. It said that the residents should avoid the volcanic particles as they would negatively impact the air quality.

More Information About Hawaii’s Kilauea

Kilauea is located in an enclosed region of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Its name means ‘much spreading’ and ‘spewing’, which is a reference to its active history. The volcano has been active throughout its history. The longest period that it stayed quiet since 1918 was for 18 years.

This was from 1934 to 1952. It is also said that from January 1983 to April 2018, the volcano erupted constantly from vents. In 2018, the volcano’s eruption destroyed the largest natural freshwater lake in Hawaii, the Green Lake.

In 1778, in what is considered to be one of the deadliest of its eruptions, Kilauea ended up claiming the lives of around 400 people.
