In a delightful turn of events, a group of Gujaratis stranded in Uttarakhand due to a landslide turned an unexpected delay into a lively garba performance. This heartwarming incident unfolded on the 14th of September, when a significant landslide blocked a crucial road leading to Gangotri, part of the popular Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage.

Uttarakhand Landslide Sparks Unexpected Garba Party

Viraj Gorasia, who was travelling with his parents as part of a larger tour group, captured the moment and shared it on social media. The group had been caught in a massive traffic jam spanning 8 to 10 kilometres, caused by the landslide. Road clearance was expected to take between 6 to 10 hours, he shared with the Hindustan Times. With the rain pouring incessantly for three days and no clear indication of when they could resume their journey, the travellers needed a way to make the best of their time.

Amidst the waiting and uncertainty, a group of Gujaratis decided to infuse some joy into the situation by engaging in a traditional garba dance. This spontaneous performance turned a mundane delay into a lively event as they danced and sang garba songs in the middle of the scenic but stranded road.

Viraj’s video of the dance, which has since gone viral on social media X (previously known as Twitter), showcases the group’s infectious energy and enthusiasm. The footage captures the synchronised dance steps against the backdrop of the lush, mountainous terrain.
