The state is still reeling from cataclysmic landslides that took place in the regions of Wayanad and Meppadi in Kerala. Rescue operations are on a war path and so far, more than 1,000 people have been rescued from the deluge. However, there are many more still to be saved. Wayanad Landslides Updates: Death Toll Increases

According to an article which was recently published by India Today, the death toll has now reached 156. In addition to this, more than 180 people have been injured owing to the calamity. Bleak as things may seem, help is here. More than 1,000 people have been rescued so far.
Across Wayanad, more than 45 relief camps have been set up so far. These camps are accommodating as many as 3,069 people affected by the landslides. The district authorities have begun collecting data for people who are reported to be missing.
Harrowing visuals of destroyed homes as well as cars have surfaced online in light of the landslides. Streams of muddy water flooding homes and uprooting trees have also emerged. The state of Kerala has declared a two-day mourning period for this tragedy.

Compensation Announced To Affected Individuals

The Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, announced compensation for the people who were affected on Tuesday, July 31, 2024. If reports are to go buy, the relatives of the deceased will receive a total of ₹2 lakh and those who are injured will receive ₹50,000.
The chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has announced assistance to the Kerala government of ₹5 crore rupees. The weather department of Kerala has issued a red alert for other districts like Idukki, Kannur, Kasargod, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur.
