Working parents strive to strike the right balance between their professional and personal lives. However, when their children fall ill, parents may have to take leave from work to nurse them. Recently, a Reddit post threw light on working parents’ woes when a company warned its employees from taking the day off to care for their sick children.
Company Prevents Employees From Taking Day Off To Care For Sick Children
A Reddit post shared on r/antiwork shows a circular posted on a company’s bulletin board. The circular stated that asking for leave because an employee’s child is sick is no longer a valid excuse to miss work. Moreover, it warned that the company didn’t hire the employee’s children.

Through the circular, the company clearly warned employees from taking the day off to tend to their sick children. The employer (s) mentioned that they don’t hire the children. So, it is an invalid excuse to miss children and action will be taken against employees who engage in the same. It ends with insincere words to “motivate” the team. This post went viral on Reddit garnering 1.7k upvotes and 512 comments.

Redditors Enraged
This post started a debate on corporate work life and how and how fulfilling it may or may not be in the long run. Netizens slammed the company for its insensitivity. One Redditor commented that the post’s last two words, “Go team” were actually a call to action for its employees to dust their employees and leave the company. Another person joked that the employer(s) will soon be saying, “No team” instead of “Go team”.

A Redditor even stated that parents often fall sick due to their children’s contagious illness. If these working parents attend work, they may end up spreading this illness among co-workers. Other Redditors told the OP to disclose the company name so they could name and shame it for this inhumane policy.

Does your company have a policy that bars you from taking leaves to care for your sick children?
