Regena Cassandrra invited us to her hometown Chennai and graciously took us around. We roamed around the iconic Marina Beach, devoured authentic South Indian thalis and even asked her to help us bust some common myths about Chennai. And when in Chennai, how can we not learn a few sentences in Tamil from the beloved actress?
Regena Cassandrra Teaches Us Tamil
During the Tere Gully Mein episode, we gave Regena Cassandrra a few sentences and asked her to translate them into Tamil. From sentences like “Hi! How are you?”, “Chennai is beautiful”, “Let’s have idli-dosa” and more. We also learnt that “Venda” in Tamil means “No”. And “Ila” means “No, not there”. And “Ama” means “Yes”. Finally, we had to say “Nandri” (Thank you) to Regena Cassandrra for being such a sport.
Moreover, the Rocket Boys actress urged people to visit Chennai in December. It will be time for the month-long Marghazi season, a music and dance festival. The city will be rife with classical dance and music concerts. There will be carnatic music concerts and Bharatnatyam dance performances happening in Chennai. “It’s really a beautiful time to be in the city,” says Regena with a lot of enthusiasm.

We Relished A South Indian Thali At Nair Mess
What followed was a whirlwind tour of Chennai with Regena Cassandrra. She shared her favourite spots, childhood memories and took us on street food adventures. We even relished hot corn drizzled with masala on Marina Beach. Later, she took us to Nair Mess nestled in the heart of Chennai. Since we visited a bit late, the place wasn’t as packed as usual. The South Indian thali had green banana sabzi, radish, fried fish, sambar, rice and more.
Regena also revealed that she was a vegetarian for seven years. But later she decided to lean into a non-vegetarian diet. That’s because she is an avid traveller. During her travels, devouring the local food and picking up on the native language helps her to immerse in the culture of the destination. “There is so much of culture imbibed in the kind of food people eat,” she shares. The actress revealed that South Indian food is her favourite and even prayed before her meal.
