Matt Thistlethwaite, Australian Assistant Minister for Immigration, attended the launching event of the Working Holiday Maker visa programme for India on Monday. According to a report by The Times of India, India joined this new programme on September 16. This association turned out to be Australia’s 50th partner country for the working holiday maker initiative.

According to the recently launched Working Holiday Maker visa programme, a maximum of 1,000 eligible Indian citizens can get a work and holiday visa in Australia every year. To crack the eligibility criteria, the applicants need to fall in the age group of 18 to 30 years. The selected individuals can stay, work, study, and holiday in this international country for a year. Each application costs $25 (approx. ₹2,102). It charges $650 (approx. ₹54,626) for the visa fee.

The Australian High Commission website states that the selected Indians can also apply for a subsequent Work and Holiday visa only if they meet specific requirements. The brand-new collaboration between both these countries came under the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement. On this grand partnership, Matt Thistlethwaite said that the Working Holiday Maker visa programme represents growing economic opportunities between India and Australia.
