They aim to tap into the wide Indian market with this initiative and hope to increase tourism significantly. Cambodia Eyes India To Boost Tourism, Launches ‘India Tourism Year’

Indians are travelling like never before! Since the pandemic, there has been a significant tourism boom in the country. People are travelling to international destinations and reports show an outbound travel boom in the country. Seeing this trend, Cambodia hopes to increase Indian tourists’ footfalls and has launched the ‘India Tourism Year’. With this initiative, Cambodia hopes to boost Indian tourist arrivals by 3-4 times in 2024.

According to The Economic Times, seeing the potential and the tourism boom in Indian markets, Cambodia hopes that this momentum will bring a lot of tourists to the country. While talking to PTI, Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Hul Seila said that Cambodia’s ‘India Tourism Year’ will bring 3-4 times more tourists, in terms of the number, to their country.

The Cambodia tourism ministry hopes this initiative will strengthen tourism cooperation between the two countries and attract more Indian tourists and investors to Cambodia.

Other Initiatives To Increase Tourism

As per data shared by The Economic Times, Cambodia welcomed around 68,836 Indian travellers in 2023. This was about 91% of its pre-COVID levels as the country hosted 75,286 Indian visitors in 2019. In 2024, between January and June, Cambodia welcomed around 33,000 Indian tourists. This is 17% more than the previous year. This shows the growing popularity of Cambodia among Indian travellers.

To boost this growth further, Cambodia also took the digital path. They have launched campaigns and even collaborated with travel partners and influencers to increase awareness of its various destinations, The Economic Times reported. Indians enjoy visa-on-arrival facilities in Cambodia. For now, there are only four direct flights connecting India and Cambodia. IndiGo is likely to launch one flight in November.
