Chithirai Festival Will Start On April 12 This Year
Celebrated for around a month, this is known as one of the grandest and biggest celebrations of Madurai. In 2024, the festival will begin on April 12 at the iconic Meenakshi Temple. It was on Wednesday when the concerned authorities stated the dates of the Chithirai festival, according to a report by The New Indian Express.
There is less than a month left before the start of the magnificent festival and the arrangements have already kickstarted with pomp and glory. The first event of the Chithirai Festival 2024 will be the flag hoisting ceremony at the Meenakshi Temple premises. In this month-long continuous festivities, each events are celebrated with dedication following all traditions and rituals. The first 15 days of Madurai’s iconic festival witness the coronation of Goddess Meenakshi’s holy marriage to Lord Sundareshwara.
Following this, the next 15 days are there to celebrate Lord Kallalagar’s procession from the Alagar Koyil temple to the holy city of Madurai, according to a report by Utsav. Following the traditions, the Chithirai Festival will come to an end by hosting some events in River Vaigai. The festivities start at 9 AM or even earlier on some days. The celebrations continue till 9:00-9:30 PM, depending on the rituals to follow.
