Ram Mandir

The entire country is abuzz with only one thing: the Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya. Indians everywhere have been waiting for its opening with bated breaths and it is easily one of the most anticipated temples in the country. Many aspects of the temple are worth writing home about. One of them is the style of architecture that was used to build the temple. It is known as the Nagara Style and uses no steel or iron.

What Is The Ancient Indian Nagara Style Of Architecture?

The grandly built Ram Mandir is constructed in the Nagara Style of architecture. It is an ancient Indian architectural style and is one of the two major ones of Hindu temples. As per reports, it evolved from the temples constructed during the Gupta period around the fifth century.

The architect of the Ram Mandir is the renowned Chandrakant B Sompura who designed the temple with the help of his son Ashish. The design of the temple incorporated visions that he had for Ram Mandir for the last thirty years!

The Nagara Style also has three major schools or sub-styles. They are Chandela, Odisha and Solanki. It went through these three stages of development before becoming what the style is today.

No Steel Or Iron Used In Buildings Constructed In This Style

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, no cement, mortar, steel or iron is used in its construction. This is because when the Nagara style emerged, the use of steel or iron was not very prevalent in the Gupta dynasty.

The durability of iron is around eighty to ninety years but the temple primarily uses granite, sandstone and marble. This increases the durability of the temple to a thousand years.
