With Air India’s announcement of integrating New Distribution Capability (NDC) into its system, we’re sure you all must be wondering about this latest technology in airline distribution. Well, NDC is a travel industry-supported programme that was launched by IATA. It was launched for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard, according to IATA’s website.

NDC enhances the capability of communications between airlines and travel agents and how airline products are retailed on various channels. This will mean the flyers will get access to a wider variety of offers and services. Right from tailored flight packages to a more streamlined booking process, everything is possible with the NDC system.

On September 5, Air India announced that it had successfully implemented the integration of NDC in its system. With this, it became the first Indian airline to go live with this new technology in airline distribution. Air India has adopted the latest 21.3 schema of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This adoption will allow the airline to have more personalised and efficient interactions with its travel partners and also enhance the overall booking and travel experience.

The implementation of NDC will give Air India passengers access to a wider variety of offers and services. This includes tailored flight packages and ancillary products, available in real time. The flyers can expect a more streamlined booking process with greater transparency and access to the best deals across all sales channels.

Talking about this, Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India said, “Implementing NDC is a significant milestone for Air India as we continue to innovate and enhance our distribution strategy. Our goal is to provide a seamless and efficient booking experience for our travel partners and customers.”
