The SAHEM programme was launched in Riyadh through an event. This initiative aims to address and control the problem of obesity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The inaugural meeting, which happened at Crowne Plaza Riyadh, was held in the presence of leading experts, practitioners, and we are here to tell you all about this programme.
SAHEM Programme Launched In Riyadh
With the aim of combating obesity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the SAHEM programme was launched. It aims to shine a spotlight on obesity as a chronic disease that requires an integrated medical approach. Moving beyond the traditional approach of blaming the individual, it seeks to build a comprehensive health system, promoting prevention, provision for effective evidence-based treatment, and, of course, early diagnosis. As revealed in a report by Zawya, all of this was mentioned at an event that was attended by industry professionals.

Aims To Combat Obesity
It should be noted that the programme has a comprehensive implementation plan. Comprising several key pillars, these are as follows:
- Field activities and public awareness campaigns to the target general population in schools, shopping centres, and workplaces.
- Organisation of workshops and training sessions for physicians, nurses and nutritionists for a standardised treatment.
- Development of multichannel educational content. This would, in turn, help in a wide reach of awareness messages. It Aligns With Saudi Vision 2030
As it happens, the field activities and public awareness will be in collaboration with public and private entities, so that people can become aware of this problem and how they can address this better. Not to mention, it aligned with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals, which aim to enhance the quality of life while also promoting public health and reducing the burden of chronic diseases.
