Ras Al Khor is known for its abundant beauty, and recently, the Dubai Municipality has unveiled a massive development project. We are talking about the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Development Project, which was unveiled on Monday, June 30. With the aim of increasing visitors sixfold, here’s all you need to know about this AED650 million development project.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Development Project Launched

As revealed by the Dubai Municipality, recently the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Development Project was launched, and the first phase of the contract has already been awarded. This initial phase will then be completed by the end of next year. For those who are wondering, this is a wetland reserve, which is located in the City Centre of Dubai.

With its blend of salt flats, lagoons and mangroves, it is recognised globally as an Important Bird Area. Yes, this recognition has been accorded by the BirdLife International, which is home to more than 450 species of flora and fauna. They all play a role in the regional biodiversity!

144% Increase In Number Of Water Bodies

Home to several types of birds, visitors can find everything from flamingos to spoonbills and grey herons that will leave them in all of their beauty. In fact, there is a 144% increase in the number of water bodies within the place for the first half. As a result, this would expand the total area to 74 hectares. Moreover, 10 hectares of mudflats are also expected to be added, as revealed in a report by the Dubai Media Office.

Several Facilities To Be Improved

After the completion of the first phase, the second phase would focus on expanding the green area, improving the natural habitat and planting native vegetation. This is expected to strengthen the sanctuary’s role, and several other visitor facilities will also be improved. These include bird hides, educational signage, and upgraded walkways.

So, with these improvements underway, you can certainly expect that it is bound to attract birdwatchers.
