It wasn’t too long ago when it was announced that the Zayed National Museum is all set to open its doors in December 2025. Located in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, it is truly one of the highest concentrations of cultural institutions globally. And it will also be home to Blue Quran, which is a copy of the Quran dating from 800-900 CE.
Zayed National Museum To House Blue Quran
The Blue Quran is a manuscript which is known for its vibrant blue or Indigo-hued pages. With silver decoration and gold Kufic calligraphy, it is regarded as one of the most important examples of Islamic calligraphy. Not only this, it has also been revealed that researchers from Zayed National Museum have unveiled text concealed beneath the intricate decorative layer of gold leaf. This is on the page of the Blue Quran and has been done through a multispectral imaging technique. And it reveals text and images that were faded over time.
Significance Of The Manuscript

Displayed in the gallery through our connections with the museum, it is written in Kufic script. For those who aren’t aware, the text written in the script is often considered to be difficult to read since it does not use dots or signs as used in Arabic letters today. Originally made with 600 sheets, these were from sheep skin, and now only a hundred pages are found in the private museum collections around the world.
Five of these are being displayed at the museum. Coming back to the gallery where this Quran will be displayed, it aims to draw the horizon of people of the ancient Emirates. Moreover, the museum also celebrates the rich history, culture, and stories of the United Arab Emirates.

The galleries are spread across two floors, there are six of them, and they span 300,000 years of human history. In fact, there will also be a temporary exhibition gallery, and it will feature a collection of artefacts.
So, with so many important documents and artefacts visible to the people, you might want to visit this museum once it opens. And for this, stay tuned to the space as we will reveal details relating to this once they’re out.
