What if we tell you that there’s a spicy version of this traditional sweet preparation? Well, this variation of halwa is prepared with green chillies and surprisingly, mirchi halwa has a huge fanbase too. Do you want to learn its recipe?

The concept of mirchi halwa is surely unique and many often consider it unusual. The infusion of spicy chillies with a blend of ghee, suji, khoya, and sugar is indeed unexpected. Surprisingly, videos on the flavour-packed version of this authentic dessert have been making rounds on the Internet recently.

Over a decade back, Chef Harpal Singh Sokhi shared this halwa recipe on the Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana YouTube channel. From necessary ingredients to the entire cooking process, he shared everything you need to know about cooking this delectable sweet and spicy treat.

Here’s A Recipe For This Spicy Dessert

Ingredients

  • 50 gm green chillies
  • 3 pieces alum
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp suji
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup grated khoya
  • 1/4 tsp green cardamom powder

Follow these steps

  • Start preparing mirchi halwa by slitting and deseeding fresh green chillies. Try to purchase less spicy chillies from the market for this unique recipe.
  • Dip an alum in a pot of water and boil chillies in it for at least six minutes. Drain boiled chillies and throw the rest of the water. Again, pour water into a pot, add alum, and boil chillies for five to six minutes. Follow this step thrice.
  • Once done, use the boiled green chillies to prepare a smooth paste.
  • Next, heat ghee in a non-stick pan. Saute green chilli paste for a few minutes. Make sure to cook on a medium flame.
  • In the next step, add semolina and cook all ingredients nicely.
  • After five minutes, add sugar and cook for a couple of minutes on low flame.
  • Add khoya too and saute everything for two minutes.
  • In the last step, sprinkle cardamom powder and give everything a nice mix.
  • Homemade mirchi halwa is ready to be served.
