About International Kullu Dussehra Festival 2023
On Tuesday, October 10, the Himachal Pradesh Government and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) co-hosted a curtain-raising event for International Kullu Dussehra Festival 2023 in New Delhi.
The celebrations will begin with the famed Lord Raghunath ji’s Rath Yatra, with over 300 local deities taking part in the major event. Chief Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism, Sunder Singh Thakur went on to say that the festival’s main attractions will be the International Carnival on 25 October and the Kullu Carnival Fest on 30 October.
Moreover, this year’s Dussehra festivities will feature cultural troupes from over 20 nations, including Russia, Israel, Romania, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Panama, Iran, the Maldives, Malaysia, Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Ghana, and Ethiopia.

How Is This Dussehra?
Kullu Dussehra extends for a week. This year’s Kullu Dussehra Festival, which dates back to the 17th century, will be held from October 24 to October 30 in Kullu. Kullu Dussehra is largely a celebration of Lord Raghunath, the region’s ruling god.
The major highlight of the celebration is the great procession of Lord Raghunath’s idol. There is a procession when the Lord is carried on a lavishly painted chariot. Additionally, the elaborately decorated palanquins carried by devotees in a grand parade. These palanquins contain the idols of various gods and goddesses, making it a diverse and inclusive celebration.
Kullu, nestled in the Himalayan foothills, provides a breathtaking backdrop for the celebrations. The picturesque valley and snow-capped mountains create a unique setting that enhances the spiritual and cultural experience. The folk dance forms are integral to the celebrations and bring out the rich cultural diversity of Himachal Pradesh.
