Mohammed Futurewala (@MFuturewala) shared a video on Twitter of a street food vendor preparing banana pani puri from scratch. In the video, the street food vendor first peels two bananas and then adds them whole into a vessel with black channa. Next, he goes on to add salt, coriander leaves and a little green chutney into the vessel. The street food vendor then goes on to mash the mixture with his hand.
From what we can make out, the banana substitutes for potato in the filling. Perhaps, the mashable texture of banana makes it a decent alternative to potato, at least in the street food vendor’s mind. The Gujarat vendor then adds the banana-channa mash into puris, pours yellow matar gravy and then dunks them in spicy water before serving them to hungry customers.

But surprisingly, this street food dish received mixed reviews. Not everyone was put off by adding fruit to the good ol’ spicy pani puri.@tikulli tweets that the banana-channa mixture tastes very good and she adds it to her chaat with green chutney.

So they wouldn’t mind giving it a go. but there were others who had issues with the questionable hygienic conditions and the whole combo.
