Mumbai Metro Line 3 connects the western suburbs to the southern parts of the city. Also known as the Aqua Line, the first phase of the metro operations began on July 24, 2024. Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) planned a set of amenities for specially-abled passengers travelling on the Aqua Line. Though the authorities announced the new initiations on Wednesday, the guidelines are yet to come into action.
One of the major plans is to limit walking distances and cross‐flows between incoming and outgoing passengers. Next, the authorities will use lifts and ramps for people using wheelchairs. Ramps and staircases for differently-abled commuters on Mumbai metro Line 3 will have handrails. Also, there will be optimum lighting at street level with these facilities.
To improve metro experiences for visually impaired commuters, the authorities have planned to install tactile directional tiles on the floors. For passengers with disabilities, there will be signage installed at several locations. These signs will provide information to guide them accordingly.

Each of the new plans and facilities upcoming at the Mumbai metro Aqua Line will help enhance the experiences of differently-abled passengers by providing them with proper guidance and assistance throughout the journey. From lamps to signages to tactile directional tiles, each new installation on Line 3 will play a significant impact in offering smooth travel experiences to all commuters.
From Cuffe Parade to Aarey Colony, the Aqua Line spans an underground route of 33.5 km. According to a report by Mint, these stations fall on the route: Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CST Metro, Girgaon, Grant Road, Mumbai Central Metro, and Aarey Depot among others.
