With the planned Metro projects, connectivity to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) is expected to greatly improve. The projects include Line 7A (from the Gundavali Metro station to the CSMI airport) and Underground Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ). The 3.4-kilometer Mumbai Metro Line 7A is an extension of the Red Line or Metro 7 that runs from Dahisar East to Gundavali and connects Andheri East to the airport and its construction started earlier this month.

In contrast, a direct connection from Mira Bhayander to the airport via Metro Line 7A is an extension of the already-running Metro Line 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar E). And the still-under-construction Metro Line 9 will cut the distance from Mira Bhayander to the airport from almost two hours by road to just one hour.

Commuters from Colaba will also have easy access to the airport station, known as CSMIA T2, thanks to the underground Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ). Unlike the current airport station on Metro Line One (Ghatkopar to Versova via Andheri), both of the planned Metro lines would transport passengers straight to the airport terminal area, negating the need for taxis or other private vehicles.

The future Metro Line 1, Line 6, 2A, and 2B will all have interchange stations in addition to direct connectivity, greatly boosting mobility throughout the city and suburbs. Metro Line 7A is expected to be operational by December 2025, according to a representative of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

With a partially elevated path operating adjacent to the Western Express Highway and Sahar elevated road, the tunnelling for this line has already started. The organisation in charge of carrying out Metro Line 7A is MMRDA. The underground Metro Line 3 Phase 1 (Aarey to BKC) line includes the Metro Line 3 CSMIA T2 station, which is 91 per cent finished. Phase 1 (Aarey to BKC) of Metro Line 3 is anticipated to be completed by December of the current year or early in the next year.

The completion of Metro Line 7A will be essential in establishing a connection between the international airport and the MMR region, according to MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee IAS.

Through a vast network of Metro lines, including Metro Lines 7, 2A, 2B, and 9, as well as underground Lines 3, 4, and Metro 10, this Metro line will act as a dependable link, smoothly connecting the western and eastern suburbs of Mumbai, as well as South Mumbai, Mira Bhayander, and Thane. With easy access to the T2 terminal, this link would make getting to the airport hassle-free for commuters.

An MMRC representative stated that Metro Line 3 would connect numerous important destinations from Colaba to SEEPZ and be the busiest single line in Mumbai.
