The travel and hospitality industry in Himachal Pradesh is experiencing a decline in footfall. Many hotels’ occupancy rates have dropped including the region’s capital Shimla where popular tourist spots like Mall Road and Kufri are witnessing a noticeable decrease in visitors.
Why Is Himachal Pradesh Facing A Downfall In Tourism?
The lack of snowfall alongside the ongoing Mahakumbh and Delhi elections has a significant downturn effect on Himachal’s tourism industry. Local businesses remain hopeful that favourable weather and the conclusion of these events will provide much-needed relief to the struggling tourism sector.
According to ANI reports, despite the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast predicting snowfall, a sharp decline in tourist arrivals has been experienced in the region. The hotel industry, travel businesses, and transport services have been severely impacted by this, with many stakeholders being left concerned about the future.
