Telangana has banned raw egg mayonnaise from the state. The ban extends to the production, storage and sale of this condiment which are all now illegal in this Indian state. As of now, it is said that the ban on the product is for a year. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about the ban on this condiment and why it was put in place.
Why Did Telangana Ban Raw Egg Mayonnaise For One Year?
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the ban on raw egg mayonnaise was announced on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. The announcement was made by the Telangana state government and the order was issued by the state commissioner of food safety.
The order took effect immediately as there were a number of complaints that linked the consumption of the condiment to food poisoning cases. The most recent of these cases was of a woman and her two daughters who suffered from severe food poisoning after eating momos from a street vendor.
Unfortunately, the mother passed away owing to food poisoning. The two daughters, however, are currently being treated in a hospital. Following this, the authorities decided to take action.
Other Important Details That You Would Need To Know
This incident took place on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Chintal Basti, Khairatabad. Reshma Begum who was 31 years old consumed momos from a street vendor along with her two daughters who were 12 and 14 years old respectively.
Soon after, they experienced severe symptoms of food poisoning but did not seek help as they thought it would subside. They had to be rushed to a nearby hospital soon after. Officials inspected the momo stall and found it to have substandard hygiene.
