A Delhi-bound Air India flight coming from Hong Kong had to make a U-turn as a precautionary measure on Monday, nearly an hour after take-off. Reportedly, the pilot of flight AI315 suspected a technical snag and requested to land back in Hong Kong. The pilot took this decision as a precautionary measure for the safety of passengers.

Delhi-Bound Air India Flight Returns To Hong Kong 


According to the news on Times Now, an Air India flight en route to Delhi had to make a U-turn mid-air and land back at Hong Kong International Airport. This happened when the pilot suspected a technical issue and requested the flight to be returned. In the clip, which has now surfaced online, the pilot can be heard talking to Air Traffic Control (ATC). In the conversation, he says, “For technical reasons, sir, we would like to stay closer to Hong Kong.” He also adds, “We don’t want to continue further (the flight).” The audio clip was posted on the traffic control monitoring website LiveATC.net.

Flight Makes A U-Turn As A Precautionary Measure

As per the report in Times Now, the Air India flight AI315, a Boeing Dreamliner 787, had taken off from Hong Kong Airport and was on its way to Delhi when the pilot suspected a technical issue. As a precautionary measure, he decided to return to Hong Kong for the safety of passengers. Reportedly, it took off from Hong Kong at about 12:20 pm, reached a height of 22,000 feet, and began to drop. The flight returned to Hong Kong and landed safely at around 1:15 pm.

Air India stated that flight AI315 operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 16 June 2025 returned to Hong Kong shortly after take-off. They added that the flight landed safely and is now undergoing checks. The airline also said that alternative arrangements have been planned for passengers to Delhi. Plus, they are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to minimise inconvenience as well.

The Delhi-bound Air India flight’s return to Hong Kong comes just a few days after an Air India Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft crashed into a hostel of a medical college in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It was carrying 242 people, of whom 241 died, along with several ground casualties. Only one passenger survived the deadly crash.
